SYNOPSIS
This talk introduces Very Low Frequency (VLF) testing with Tan Delta (TD) and Partial Discharge (PD) measurement as advanced diagnostic techniques for assessing the condition and reliability of medium-voltage (MV) power cables. VLF testing provides an alternative to conventional power-frequency testing, while Tan Delta measurement evaluates the overall insulation condition and detects signs of insulation deterioration, moisture ingress, and ageing. Partial Discharge measurement identifies localized insulation defects that may develop into cable failures. By understanding the principles, testing procedures, and interpretation of results, participants will gain practical knowledge of how these techniques can be applied for cable commissioning, preventive maintenance, and condition-based asset management.
