SYNOPSIS
With the rising concerns on climate change, many industrial companies are moving towards decarbonisation initiatives in recent years. In most cases, there are annual capital expenditure (CAPEX) budget allocated for the selection of decarbonisation initiatives, along with targeted decarbonisation goal. When the decarbonisation initiatives are a lot (e.g. more than 30), performing assessments for selecting the right decarbonisation initiatives can be a very challenging task. In this webinar, a simple but elegant mathematical model will be presented for the optimal selection of decarbonisation initiatives, taking into CAPEX constraint and decarbonisation goal. The model allows multi-period consideration, where the decarbonisation initiatives are allocated to their designated time period accordingly. The solved model may be plotted as the CO reduction composite curve, which is a useful graphical tool to facilitate discussion during decision making process. The newly developed method was tested on a large petrochemical corporation where more than 30 decarbonisation projects were evaluated for their optimal deployment within a three years planning horizon.
