SYNOPSIS
This one-hour introductory talk explores how Building Information Modelling (BIM) is transforming structural engineering — from traditional, isolated design processes into integrated, collaborative digital workflows.
Focusing on practical applications within the Malaysian construction industry, the session will introduce the importance of interoperability, multidisciplinary coordination, and information continuity across structural analysis, design, documentation, and fabrication.
Practical examples will demonstrate how reinforced-concrete and structural-steel analytical models can be connected with BIM coordination and documentation platforms through Open BIM workflows. The talk will also discuss common challenges affecting BIM adoption and outline practical steps that engineering organisations can take to accelerate their digital transformation.
The session will conclude with a live demonstration showing how anchoring systems can be integrated into structural connection-design workflows, illustrating how digital tools can support coordinated, constructible, and fabrication-ready solutions.
