SYNOPSIS
This forum examines the regulatory and professional frameworks that govern the development of Engineering Technologists and Engineering Technicians in Malaysia. The discussion will explore the respective roles of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as the regulatory authority and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) as the professional body in supporting competency development, registration pathways, professional recognition, and continuous learning.
The forum aims to provide participants with a clearer understanding of the legal requirements, registration processes, competency standards, and career progression opportunities available to Engineering Technologists and Engineering Technicians. It will also discuss how stronger collaboration between regulatory bodies, professional institutions, academia, and industry can contribute towards building a competent, industry-ready, and nationally aligned engineering workforce capable of supporting Malaysia’s industrial and technological aspirations.
BIODATA OF SPEAKERS
Ir. Megat Johari Megat Mohd Noor is a Professional Engineer and former Professor with over 40 years of experience in engineering education, accreditation, and professional practice. He currently chairs the BEM Examination & Qualifications Committee and the international Dublin Accord, and is actively involved in engineering standards, accreditation, and competency development.
Dr. Bernard is CEO and Co-Founder of Sandcomm Sdn Bhd with over 30 years’ experience in electronic manufacturing and tech leadership. He holds degrees in engineering, MBA, and DBA. A Professional Engineer and IEEE leader, he serves in multiple global engineering bodies including IEM, BEM, AFEO, and semiconductor advisory roles.
