SYNOPSIS

The construction industry is increasingly adopting digitalisation and industrialised construction methods to improve safety, productivity, quality and sustainability. Building Information Modelling (BIM) combined with Integrated Prefabrication Solutions (IPS) connects design, engineering, fabrication and construction through a collaborative, data-driven approach.

This technical talk will explore how BIM-driven IPS integrates 3D modelling, engineering design and off-site prefabrication to optimise MEP support systems and fastening solutions, reduce installation challenges and rework, and improve overall project efficiency.

The session will also introduce key principles of seismic design for fastening and MEP support systems, including engineering considerations, international design requirements and practical solutions for structural integrity and life safety.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Mr. Umesh Shelgaonkar
Head of Engineering, Hilti Malaysia

Umesh Shelgaonkar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from MIT School of Business, Pune, India, and has accumulated over 21+ of professional experience across Sales and business development in manufacturing & construction sectors. He began his career in the Mechanical Engineering industry, working in Sales of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines. He later joined Hilti, where he has held several positions into business development, Engineering and marketing functions in India and Malaysia, developing strong expertise in technical solution selling and people development. Umesh currently serves as Head of Engineering at Hilti Malaysia and is a member of the Executive Management Team, responsible for driving growth in key segments including building construction, data centers, heavy industry. In this role, he leads the strategic team of techno commercial Engineers developing business & accounts like Structural designers, Architects, M&E designers and influencers. Known for combining engineering expertise with strategic commercial leadership, Umesh focuses on developing high-performing teams, strengthening long-term customer partnerships, and supporting the delivery of complex engineered & technical solutions to Malaysia market.
