SYNOPSIS
This course is intended to provide transportation engineers with an overview of statistical and econometric methods commonly applied in transportation engineering. As such, the course will encompass the following key areas: -
a) Understanding and Comparing Transportation Data b) Regression Modelling for Transportation Engineering c) Modelling Transportation Events and Behaviour d) Travel Demand, Mode Choice and Transportation Forecasting
The speaker will deliberate on the application of appropriate statistical methods for different transportation issues, including traffic studies, travel time and speed analysis, public transportation, travel behaviour, mode choice and road safety. The session will also discuss how statistical methods should be selected based on the research question, type of dependent variable and characteristics of the transportation data. Worked transportation examples and simple online tasks will be incorporated to assist participants in understanding the interpretation of statistical results and, more importantly, how these results can be translated into meaningful engineering conclusions and support transportation decision-making.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Rusdi bin Rusli
Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Rusdi bin Rusli is an academic, researcher and professional engineer specialising in transportation engineering and road safety. He has extensive involvement in research and consultancy works related to road safety engineering, traffic and highway engineering, traffic management, highway capacity, crash modelling and advanced statistical analysis.
