SYNOPSIS   

Lightning is spectacular but it is also unpredictable, powerful and often misunderstood. This webinar introduces non-electrical engineers to the essential principles of lightning safety in a practical and accessible manner.

Guided by IEC TR 62713, the session will explore how lightning hazards arise, where and when risks are highest, and what engineers should do before, during and after a thunderstorm. Participants will also examine common lightning myths, misleading safety practices and real-world situations involving workplaces, construction sites, outdoor activities, vehicles and buildings.

Designed without complex electrical theory, this webinar equips participants with the awareness needed to recognise lightning hazards, make safer decisions and promote a stronger culture of lightning safety in both professional and everyday environments.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Dr SIOW CHUN LIM

Ir. Dr. Siow Chun Lim is a Professional Engineer and an academic staff in electrical power engineering at Multimedia University, with 15 years of interest in lightning protection, electrical earthing and lightning risk assessment. He has been involved in research, consultancy and training related to lightning safety, including risk assessment studies. Through this webinar, he hopes to share practical insights, clear up common misconceptions and make lightning safety easier to understand for engineers from non-electrical backgrounds.
