SYNOPSIS
The Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 (Act A1648), which was passed and gazetted in 2022, will come into force on 1 June 2024. The new OSHA Act A1648 is formulated to integrate the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (“OSHA”) and Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (“FMA”) (repealed) to provide a comprehensive safety and health legislation that applies across all industries. This course aim to provide an insight into the salient points of the new OSHA Act and explain what the duty holders need to do and how they are involved in management of risk of a construction project.
The Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Work) (Design and Management) Regulations 2024 (CDM) has come into operation on 1 June 2024. This regulations are enforced under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (Amendment 2022) which come into force on 1 June 2024. The Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Work) (Design and Management) Regulations 2024 (CDM) is based on the concept of “Prevention through Design (PtD)” principles, the general principles of prevention, as well as references to the Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry (Management) 2017 or “OSHCIM”.
The CDM regulation 2024 will have significant impact on any project which involves construction work including planning, design, management and other work involved in a project until the end of the construction project. The CDM regulation 2024 covers the responsibility of the client, designer and contractor on the management of safety, health, and welfare when carrying out construction projects. The course provides the awareness and understanding of the CDM regulation 2024 and explain what the duty holders need to do and how they are involved in management of risk of a construction project. Managing occupational safety and health risks at the planning and design stage is often more effective, easier to sustain, and cheaper to do than making changes later when the hazards become real risks in the workplace.
