SYNOPSIS

Imagine a city where rubbish bins never overflow, garbage trucks no longer block the streets, and communities enjoy a cleaner, healthier environment. This is the vision of the Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS), a revolutionary engineering solution designed to tackle one of the world’s most pressing challenges: solid waste management. In this session, participants will be introduced to the principles, technologies, and design approaches behind AWCS.

The system works by transporting waste through underground or ceilingheight pipes at high speed from chutes or outdoor load stations directly into a sealed central collection station away from residential areas. From there, waste is periodically collected by conventional arm roll trucks, ensuring efficiency and minimal disruption.

The talk will highlight leading-edge AWCS technologies adapted for residential, commercial, and industrial developments, while also addressing the environmental and community benefits of adopting a sealed and automated system. At the same time, participants will gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in implementing AWCS across different urban contexts, and how it can contribute toward building sustainable, hygienic, and future ready cities


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Chea Thean Teik

Ir. Chea Thean Teik is the Group Chief Executive Officer of STREAM Group, Malaysia’s first Central Vacuum Systems (CVS) and Automated Waste Collection Systems (AWCS) Company. Chea joined STREAM Group back in 2005 in Malaysia and has since made significant contributions to developing STREAM Group, which today serves over 380 customer projects over Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, China, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates. As a certified Professional Mechanical Engineer, Chea has a deep understanding of the market with over 28 years of vast & multi- country experiences in CVS & AWCS, Waste Management, Building’s M&E Services, Mechanical Handling Engineering, Project Management, and Contract Administration. Always enthusiastically in sharing Waste Management experience and knowledge, Chea was actively invited as speaker of few universities, corporations, and conferences, locally and internationally throughout recent years. Ir. Chea also awarded the title of International Professional Engineer (IntPE), APEC Engineer, ASEAN.
