BACKGROUND
The Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5) is a historic tin mining dredge located in Tanjung Tualang, Perak, Malaysia. Built in 1938 by F.W. Payne & Son, England, TT5 is one of the last remaining tin dredges in the country and serves as a symbol of Malaysia’s rich tin mining heritage. Measuring approximately 75 meters in length and weighing over 4,500 tons it was used to extract tin from the alluvial soil of the Kinta Valley. Today, TT5 is preserved as a heritage site and tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into the industrial past and significance of tin mining in Malaysia’s economic development.
