ABOUT TECHNICAL VISIT TO “SIRIM Berhad”

This visit is to concentrate on two section:

a) SIRIM Industrial Research (Advanced Materials Research Centre)

•  Testing and analysis facilities for general ceramics, metals, polymers and composites
•  SEM, XRD, XRF, also related to the coefficient of expansion, flexural strength, and compressive
   strength, colour meter, glass reflex index analyser, etc.
•  Our processing equipment includes electrospinning (producing micro-nano fibre), ceramic
   injection mould and ceramic tube extruder, and glass melting and sintering furnaces up to
   1700°C.
•  Some of the products developed in the past include ceramic filters (tubes), ceramic knives
   and tool bits, crucibles, welding guides, etc.

b) SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. (Materials Integrity Section (MIST)

•  MIST provides third party and independent testing services on metallic materials and products,
   proof load test on lifting devices and failure investigation services with specialization in failure
   analysis of metallic materials.
      •  Materials Science Laboratory (MSL)
      •  Lifting Devices Laboratory
      •  Materials Analysis Laboratory (MAL)
      •  COA Iron & Steel (Testing) Laboratory

The objective of this visit is to provide participants with opportunities to understand the capabilities of SIRIM for our engineering profession.
