SYNOPSIS
Waste is abundant resources which have been ignored or categorized as “unwanted materials”, “burden materials” or often given the last priority in any planning for development. Waste is being treated as “waste” and not much money is being allocated during the planning and execution of any development. However, the impacts of mismanagement of waste could cost a bomb!
Through Circular economy and meeting the SDGs, wastes are regarded as highly valuable renewable materials which have multi beneficial use in renewable energy and security as well as food safety and security.
From wastes, clean energy could be sustainably produced which helps to minimize Carbon Footprint. Some of the byproducts could be used in other sectors such as construction field.
All organic wastes could be converted into good organic fertilizer for edible crops. This will support food safety and security. Through circular economy, reliance on landfill shall be minimized or avoided in future.
Selection of technology for the above purposes is highly critical to ensure the wastes conversion is efficient, economical and sustainable and does not burden the country and the people in the long run.
