SYNOPSIS

In order to ensure sustainable development to be carried out in this country, the policies, rules and guidelines that have been prepared by the authorities or government agencies should be inline and implementable. One of the rules and guidelines that must be adhered to by other professions like architects, engineers as well as other professional bodies within the aspects of urban planning should start with familiarisation and awareness with the discipline. Among the main aspects of urban planning relates to compliance, control and permission processes related to the provisions of the development plan of an area. Therefore, the best practices related to the area of engineering in urban planning is to explore, participate and understand how the engineering elements are crucial in determining a sustainable plan in an area or any development proposal. The engineering aspects must be inculcated from the initial stages of an area's development; preparing of the development plan, control of the planning permission process and carrying out at the local authority level. The engineering aspects are the main support pillar in determining the approval of any development in order to ensure each stage is carried out sustainably for the safety and comfort of present and future generations.
