BIODATA OF MODERATORS

Ir. Sin Peng Tean
Chairman of IEM-GETD

Ir. Sin Peng Tean graduated and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of South Alabama, USA in year 1997. He started his career with a geotechnical consultancy firm in Mobile, Alabama, USA. When he returned to Malaysia, he has since involved in Ground Improvement works for more than 20years of experience in Southeast Asia region. His Ground Improvement experience included airports, reclamation, highways, oil and gas, railways, power plant and residential development. He is currently the Chairman of Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of IEM and served GETD since 2013. He is the Secretary General and Treasurer of Association of Geotechnical Societies in Southeast Asia (AGSSEA).

Ir. Yee Thien Seng
Past Chairman of GETD and Committee 2021/2022

Ir. Yee graduated in civil engineering from the University of Malaya in 1978 and has over the years worked on projects largely involving heavy plant and building foundations as well as large infrastructures. He had also carried out numerous work on distress evaluations and rehabilitation engineering. In 1994, Ir. Yee set up his own practice, Geo.Consult, to support the construction industry with both expert and specialist advice; in particular on eotechnical engineering aspects. His participation in recent projects of significance are the Kuching Deep Water Port, Shah Alam Expressway, North-South Expressway, Kuantan Port Inner Harbour Development, Kuantan-Kertih Railway and the Rawang-Ipoh Double Tracking Railway. He has authored/co-authored more than a dozen technical papers in local and international conferences. Ir. Yee is an expert witness and accredited checker registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia for the design of geotechnical engineering works. Ir. Yee was the Chairman of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia for Session 2016/2017 and Chief Drafter of the Drafting Committee for the 2009 Updated IEM Position Paper for Hill-Site Developments.

1) Dr. Mohamad Niizar Bin Abdurahman
    JKR Cerun

Dr. Mohamad Niizar obtained his Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 2003 from Kolej Universiti Tun Hussein Onn then obtained his Master in Civil Engineering in 2005 before received his PhD in Civil Engineering (Geotechnic) from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn in 2020. Starting his career in JKR as a Civil Engineer at Bahagian Maritim Cawangan Pangkalan Udara & Maritim, JKR Headquarters. in March 2007 and currently a Senior Civil Engineer at Cawangan Kejuruteraan Cerun at JKR Headquarters


2) Dr. Ferdaus Bin Ahmad
    JMG

Dr Ferdaus obtained his Bachelor Degree in Geology from University of Malaya in 1993 before pursuing his Master Degree in Engineering Geology in 2003 from University of Leeds and finally Ph.D in 2013. Dr Ferdaus has been involved in lots of geologist industry and currently he serve as Geologist at Technical Services Division, Department of Mineral & Geoscience Ipoh


3) Ir. Liew Shaw Shong
    ACEM

Ir. Liew Shaw Shong obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with First Class Honours from National Taiwan University at Taipei in 1991 and worked as a geotechnical engineer in Sino Geotechnology Inc. at Taipei for a year. In 1992, he continued his post-graduate study in University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and obtained his Master of Engineering Science in 1993. He is now a senior director and founder of G&P Geotechnics Sdn Bhd. In the past twenty-nine years of his professional career, he has involved in numbers of forensic investigations of landslide problems at mountainous roads and is one of the project team members in the National Slope Master Plan Study commissioned by JKR. He also conducted numbers of short courses and delivered lectures on subjects covering subsurface investigation, instrumentation, dam engineering, slope engineering, soft ground engineering, pile and retaining wall designs, geotechnical case histories and forensic engineering.


4) Datuk Ir. Ho Hon Sang
    REHDA

Datuk Ir. Ho Hon Sang graduated with 1st Class (Hons), Civil Engineering from University of Malaya in 1984. Attended Advanced Management Program organized by Harvard Business School, in 2005. Member of BEM, a registered Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate. Member of IEM, Professional Engineer. Has 37 years of experience in property development as well as relevant fields which include engineering, consultancy, road privatization and general management industry. Currently Group CEO of MahSing Group Berhad. Previously held the post of CEO of Sunsuria Berhad and Managing Director of Property Development, Sunway Berhad


5) Ir. Lee Peir Tien
    MGS

Ir. Lee Peir Tien obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Technology, Malaysia in 2001. He was the Chairman for Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of IEM for Session 2017/2018 and 2018/2019. Currently, he is the advisor for GETD. He also actively involved in Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS). He served as Committee Member from 2016 to 2020 and was the Secretary General for Session 2020/2021. Currently, he is the Deputy President of MGS for Session 2021/2022.


6) Ir. Dr Chan Swee Huat
    IEM

Ir. Dr. Chan Swee Huat is a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate (PEPC) registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia since 2005. He graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1997. He obtained his PhD degree from the National University of Singapore in 2003. He worked as a Geotechnical Engineer in SSP Geotechnics Sdn. Bhd. for about 5 years before he joined Dr C.T. Toh Consultant as a Resident Engineer for about 2 years. He lectured in the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus for about 8 years. He is one of the founders and directors of Geo-Excel Consultants Sdn. Bhd., a geotechnical engineering consulting firm in Malaysia. For the past 25 years, he has involved himself in analysis, design and construction of various geotechnical works including shallow & deep foundations, deep excavations & earth retaining structures, slope stability analyses & stabilization, seepage analyses, soil improvement techniques, geotechnical failure investigations, 3-D finite element analyses, independent geotechnical checker, etc. He has also served as an independent expert witness in several lawsuit and arbitration cases in Malaysia. Ir. Dr. Chan is also active in the professional community. He is currently the Secretary General of Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS), Council Member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), Deputy Chairman of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division, IEM, and Honorary Fellow of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham
