SYNOPSIS

Technologist and Technician Assessment Board (TCAB) would like to introduce the IEM new grades; Engineering Technologist and Engineering Technician to all members and non-members of IEM. This workshop is to describe the requirements, membership process and pathway towards becoming Professional Engineering Technologist and Engineering Technician. This 2-hour workshop will be conducted virtually by 3 panel speakers, Ir. Ts. Hisham Yahaya, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Hj Shamil and Mr. Ricky Liew.


Speaker’s Biodata

Ir. Ts. Hisham Yahaya

Ir. Ts. Hisham Yahaya started his OGE working experiences in 1985 with LLN in Pasir Gudang Power Station and later in Perai Power Station for a total of 5-years. Later, he worked with Shell Refinery in Port Dickson in various capacities and having extensive experiences in plant maintenance management, major project construction and turnaround management for 10-years. Then, he started his own contracting and consulting companies for the remaining of his 35-years in OGE industries. He started his own business in 2001 as contractor for OGE industries, undertaking project construction, maintenance and turnaround works.

He also owned a consulting business in 2008, undertaking Shell Hijau Project for their imported UPV design approval from DOSH and issuance of the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC); for EPCC Fluor Daniel International. He was also the consultant for Arkema CJ Plant project for their imported UPV design approval from DOSH; for EPCC Foster Wheeler UK.

Ir. Ts. Hisham Yahaya is a certified NOSS DESCUM facilitator by Department of Skills Development (under the Ministry of Human Resources) with experiences in developing Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) occupational competencies in NOSS Rotating Equipment as well as Static Equipment for Oil & Gas industries. He was engaged as mechanical rotating and static equipment auditor by DNV.GL to undertake independent construction audit for RAPID-Pengerang Refinery and Cracker Complex; Jul till Dec 2019. He was also engaged as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in mechanical by DNV.GL to undertake Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) in RAPID-Penggerang Diesel Hydro-Treater (DHT) fire/explosion incident from Apr till Jun 2020. In early 2020, he received his certification as a Green Project Manager (GPM-b TM) as well as a Registered Consultant & Assessor (RCA) in Green Project Management by GPM Global, USA.


Ir. Assoc. Prof. Hj. Shamil Abu Hassan

Ir. Assoc. Prof. Hj. Shamil Abu Hassan hailed from the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, USA with a degree in Engineering majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Civil Engineering. He also obtained a Master in Engineering Technology from University of Kuala Lumpur, focussing on the prediction of the most suitable propeller configuration small electrically- powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Ir. Hj. Shamil is a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (PEPC) in Mechanical Engineering registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a certified Automotive Professional Engineer. His vast experience in manufacturing serving in the multi-national companies has taken him from managing a small design outfit in product design and tooling, advanced manufacturing systems to managing manufacturing operations of a reputable internationally renowned product manufacturer.

Ir. Hj. Shamil is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor at the DRB-HICOM University Of Automotive Malaysia where he oversees the overall running of the university in academic, students affairs, research, training and consultancy activities for the university. Additionally, Ir. Hj. Shamil is also the Senior Dean for Technical Training Institute at the University. He brings along more than 30 years of vast experience in design, manufacturing, and military service. He currently teaches Mechanical and Automotive Engineering where he concentrates his effort into research particularly in the aviation and autonomous vehicle navigation,2 sustainable development and very passionate in imparting his knowledge and experience to today’s students who will become tomorrow’s engineers and technologists.

Ir. Hj. Shamil is the author of the book Professional Engineer Interview- An Expert Guide to a Successful Application. To date, more than 1500 copies has been sold and assisted many engineers in pursuing their dreams. In addition to academic books, Ir. Hj. Shamil has also written two military-spy fiction novels and are slowly gaining popularity. He is an active speaker particularly in education and engineering and currently serves in various Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) committees where he devote and contribute his energy and efforts to the noble profession.


Mr. Ricky Liew

Mr Ricky Liew is currently the Head of Engineering of a local aircraft engineering services company. He is a registered engineer (aeronautical) with BEM and the Vice Chairman of IEM Engineering Technologist and Technician Sub-committee. A Fellow of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology, he is also a registered ASEAN Engineering Technologist.

Mr Ricky Liew has 33 years of experience in aircraft maintenance industry and was involved in several government agencies aerospace development initiatives. He holds Civil Aviation Authority United Kingdom (CAA UK), Malaysian (CAAM) aircraft maintenance engineer license and a Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance (JPK). He was an aircraft engineer with Malaysia Airlines, Eva Airways Corporation and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He holds an MBA from Victoria University, Australia and a former Adjunct Professor of Universiti Putra Malaysia at the Department of Aerospace Engineering. He is listed as a National Industry Expert (Aerospace) under Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia. He is a recipient of Sunway Star Award 2017, Malaysia Board of Technologist (MBOT) Active Technologist Award 2019 and a recipient of International Sustainable Aviation and Energy Research Society (SARES) Company Award 2020.
