SYNOPSIS

Energy efficiency in Malaysia has been implemented since 1996 with the promotion of it in the 7 th Malaysia Plan. It has since developed with the introduction and enforcement of the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations (EMEER) in 2008. Followed by the requirements of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS)StandardsandLabellingofdomesticappliancesin2013. Known as the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) 2016-2025, the action plan paved the way for a more strategic plan to reduce the demand for electrical energy utilizing the existing regulations and policies.

To further improve the energy efficiency initiatives in the industrial and commercial sectors, a program under the 11th Malaysia Plan known as the Energy Audit Conditional Grant (EACG) 2016-2020 were implemented. Meanwhile, energy efficiency in building sectors is also an important feature in reducing the demand for electrical energy. With this in mind, the Government has introduced the Building Energy Intensity labelling program in government buildings. One of the goals is to assist Malaysia’s commitment to cutting the GHG emission intensity by 45% by 2030 relative to the GDP emission intensity in 2005
