SYNOPSIS
The Department of Standards Malaysia have made available as draft DMS 17W001R0 : Emergency Preparedness Responses for Public Comment. This public consultation period is from 1 August 2020 to 31 October 2020. This standard is supposed to apply to buildings, structures or workplaces occupied by people, with the exception of domestic buildings. It is to provide guidance for the planning and implementation of effective emergency planning committee (EPC) and emergency response team (ERT) procedures, covering emergency situations up until the appropriate Emergency Service arrives to manage the situation, at which time, the ERT shall work in conjunction with that service.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir. Loo Chee Kin is a Senior Consultant with Global Risk Consultants (GRC) and before that he was a Senior Engineering Specialist with FM Global for some 12 years. He has more than 20 year engineering experience, from design to field work. He graduated from UMIST, Manchester, UK with a B.Eng in Electromechanical Systems Engineering and prior to that a Diploma in Electromechanical Systems Engineering from Kota Bharu Polytechnic in Kota Bharu, Malaysia. He is a P.Eng in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a Member of IEM. He is a Member of IMechE and IEE, and registered C.Eng. He is an active committee member in the IEM, the current Advisor of IEM Mechanical Engineering Technical Division (METD), Chairman of Disaster Risk Reduction Advisory Board (DRRAB), member in the Fire Advisory Board (FAB) as well as various Sub-Committees and Boards. Ir. Loo represents IEM to various dialogues with Bomba and other agencies and working standards committees as well as trainer and speaker for courses and seminars. His areas of risk evaluation are both for existing sites as well as engineering services for new projects of clients. In the natural hazards field, Ir. Loo had done consultancy for flood, earthquake, windstorm, freeze and snow in various countries.
Ir. Kim Kek Seong is a Technical Manager of Enovate PLT dealing with various innovative engineering solutions. He has more than 18 years of hands-on experience in various mechanical and chemical process engineering improvements as well as personal safety and industrial hygiene management. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM, with a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering. He is a P.Eng in Chemical Engineering, Fellow Member of IEM, and Honorary Member of AFEO. He currently is an active committee member in the IEM, in Membership Application Board (MAB), Disaster Risk Reduction Advisory Board (DRRAB), Member of Training Board (TB) as well as various Sub-Committees and boards.
