SYNOPSIS
Why This Matters
Bid evaluation is a critical stage in any engineering project. The quality of the Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) directly affects project cost, schedule, safety, operability, and long-term reliability. Engineers are often tasked with performing TBEs, yet few receive formal training on how to do it systematically, fairly, and with sound technical justification.
About This Talk
This talk provides a practical, structured, and real-world overview of the Technical Bid Evaluation process used in engineering projects. It focuses not only on what to do, but also how to do it correctly - and what to avoid.
What You Will Learn
• The purpose and principles of Technical Bid Evaluation • The end-to-end TBE workflow: from bid receipt to final recommendation • How to set and apply technical evaluation criteria • How to compare bids on a like-for-like basis and handle technical deviations • How to manage technical queries, clarifications, and compliance checks • Best practices for documentation and audit trail • Common pitfalls and risks — and how to avoid them • How to prepare a clear, fair, transparent, and technically well-justified TBE report
Who Should Attend
• Project Engineers • Lead / Discipline Engineers • Package Engineers • Engineering Managers • Anyone involved in technical evaluation of vendor bids
Key Takeaway
Participants will leave with a practical framework and tools to conduct Technical Bid Evaluations that are technically sound, commercially aligned, and well-justified, helping to ensure the right technical decisions are made for the project.
