SYNOPSIS

Since starting his digital journey in 2003, Ronan has championed the integration of software and innovative digital processes within the engineering sector for two decades. Amid this transformative journey, a recurrent set of challenges confront engineers, architects, contractors, and owners, forming obstacles to the seamless integration of BIM.

What sets apart the triumphs of a few from the struggles of the many? Why do some projects bask in the limelight of BIM awards while most falter in realizing the full potential of digital solutions?

Imagine the scene: design engineers navigating the uncharted waters of an industry steeped in tradition, grappling with staunch conservatism. How does one sway the hearts of those resistant to change? Yet, this is merely a fragment of the larger picture. In an era where technology evolves at a dizzying pace, how does the engineering community elevate its collective skill set to embrace digital tools?

Herein lies a pivotal question: What is the role of government agencies, authorities, and national institutions? Can they play a pivotal role in supporting harmonizing industry-wide training initiatives and mandates for BIM adoption?

Join Ronan as he delves into the heart of these questions, unravelling the intricate tapestry of challenges that have held back progress and exploring pathways to reshape the landscape of construction technology. Through the prism of his experience, we'll journey beyond the surface, igniting conversations that not only address the 'what' and 'why,' but also spark the flames of possibilities that lie ahead.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Ronan Collins started his career as a chartered structural engineer, working for Arup in Europe and Hong Kong. In 2003 he established a specialist consultancy in Hong Kong focused on Construction tech, Project Information Management, BIM and 4D planning.

When he finds time, he likes to play golf or go sailing with his family.

Ronan is passionate about digital construction and has dedicated his career to driving innovation and digital transformation in the construction industry. He believes that the business benefits provided by BIM and digital engineering processes can transform the way we design, construct and maintain our infrastructure and buildings.

During his 25 year career, he has implemented digital solutions and services for large scale developments including airports, hotels, railways, universities, exhibition centres, casinos and complex industrial projects all around the world. As a certified BIM Manager, he provides expert advice on how to specify and plan the implementation of digital engineering processes.

He is always willing to share his knowledge, experience and guidance for people working with BIM. As a renowned industry speaker, he regularly shares ideas on how to get the maximum value from BIM at conferences and industry forums. Using real world project examples, he provides practical insights on the dos and don’ts of digital transformation for engineering and construction.
