SYNOPSIS
To improve and enhance inter-town connectivity within urban areas and reduce travel time, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system emerges as an optimal environmentally-friendly green solution. Presently, most of the MRT systems are built underground, a strategic choice aimed at conserving land resources, preventing traffic and utility disruptions, and minimizing adverse effects on the local community. Consequently, Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are employed to excavate tunnels and establishing the underground network.
Safety is placed at the forefront of planning and execution processes when it comes to Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations beneath the ground with foremost commitment by specialist builder. This talk will present the challenges that encountered in LRT3 tunnelling, along with the strategies employed to mitigate these risks through thorough geological analysis and precise machine selection. Additionally, valuable insights on optimizing site layout and engineering solutions to enhance the efficiency of tunnel construction while successfully overcoming various challenges will be shared and discussed.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Mr. Wang Ji
Wang Ji, Project Manager for Light Rail Transit Line 3 Underground Section (LRT3 UG) tunnel work, is a tunneller since 2008 after graduation in Civil Engineering from Tong Ji University, Shanghai.
He dedicates himself with contractor for TBM tunnelling work in Shanghai, Singapore, Chennai and Kuala Lumpur in the past 15 years. He was the project leader of UTEC, the specialist contractor for LRT3 UG underground tunnel work.
He has been leading this team to success since the project planning, designing and then the completion of the whole tunnelling work. His diligence and efficient management made the extraordinary Zero Accident safety record, and guided his team perform efficiently during the COVID pandemic.
