SYNOPSIS
As technology advances and more of our lives move online, cybersecurity has become a critical concern. Hackers and cybercriminals are constantly looking for vulnerabilities to exploit and data to steal, making it more important than ever to be aware of the risks and take steps to protect yourself. In this talk, we will discuss the key concepts of cybersecurity awareness and provide practical tips for individuals to safeguard their online identities and data. We will cover a range of topics, including:
• Understanding the Threat Landscape - We will explore the various types of threats that exist in cyberspace, from phishing attacks to malware and ransomware, and examine how they work.
• Strengthening Passwords and Authentication - We will discuss the importance of using strong passwords and two-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts.
• Securing Your Devices and Networks - We will review best practices for securing your computers, smartphones, and home networks, such as using firewalls and antivirus software.
• Protecting Personal Information - We will provide guidance on how to safeguard your personal information, such as your IC number and credit card details, from identity theft and fraud.
• Cybersecurity in the Workplace - We will discuss how businesses can enhance their cybersecurity posture and the importance of employee training and awareness.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Goh Vik Tor
Ir. Dr. Vik Tor Goh is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, Malaysia. He received his B.Eng. (Hons.) Electronics majoring in Telecommunications and M.Eng.Sc. degrees from Multimedia University, Malaysia in 2002 and 2006, respectively. Following that, he obtained a PhD in Computer Science from Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2010 for his research on intrusion detection. Dr. Goh was awarded the prestigious (ISC)2 Information Security Scholarship for his pioneering work in intrusion detection. His area of expertise includes cybersecurity, computer networking, IoT, and machine learning. Dr. Goh has been involved in numerous research projects as a principal investigator or co-investigator. He has served as a technical consultant for the security industry and is also a panel evaluator for Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) R&D research funds.
Dr. Goh is a HRDF-certified trainer and has developed and delivered technical trainings in various topics related to cybersecurity, computer networking, and programming. These trainings were provided to participants from TM, MAMPU, and local banks among others. He holds multiple professional certifications including CISSP, EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Huawei Certified Datacom Associate (HCDA). Dr. Goh is also a qualified Professional Engineer (PEng, BEM) and Chartered Engineer (CEng, IET).
