INTRODUCTION

In conjunction with the 12th INWES Asia Pacific Network Nation (APNN), IEM WE is organising the 3rd International Conference of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WiSET) 2022. This conference aims to identify the challenges faced by women in science, engineering and technology (SET); address the issues relating to Women in SET and share perspectives in devising strategies to address the imbalance of women participation in SET so as to create opportunities upon which to build the future.

The anticipated participants of this conference would be Professionals in the field of STEM such as Scientists, Engineers and Technologists. At this conference, inspiring experiences and the secret to success among Scientists, Engineers and Technologists will be shared. It would indeed be a platform where all Professionals would look forward to.


CONFERENCE OBJECTIVE

• To engage, inspire and build the next generation of women in Science, Engineering & Technology
• To empower women in Science, Engineering and Technology through entrepreneurship
• To energize future leaders and build excitement in STEM fields
• To promote globalization and integration amongst women in Science, Engineering & Technology


HOST CITY – PENANG

Georgetown, Penang – the capital city of the State of Penang. It is located in the north of Malaysia. Name after Britain’s King George III, Georgetown was the first British Settlement in Southeast Asia and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The metropolitan area, known as the Greater Penang Conurbation, has a combined population of 2.50 million, making it the second largest metropolitan area in Malaysia after Greater Kuala Lumpur.

Likewise, Georgetown is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. It has been listed as one of the top global travel destinations by the likes of The Guardian, CNN, Los Angeles Times and Forbes. Furthermore, both Forbes and CNN has listed Georgetown as one of the best budget cities to retire in the world. Georgetown was also ranked 8th in the ECA International’s list of most livable cities in Asia. Additionally, Georgetown is Malaysia’s most important engineering tourism hub and northern financial center.


TECHNICAL VISITS

1) The Habitat Penang Hill - Malaysian Malaysian Rainforest Experience

A world-class rainforest discovery center and eco-park set amid an ancient rainforest atop the storied Penang Hill, the gateway to the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve. Rediscover and reconnect with nature through age-old tales expressed in new and meaningful ways as you explore and experience the Malaysian rainforest from the forest floor to the tree-tops. Home to the iconic Langur Way Canopy Walk and Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk, The Habitat Penang Hill is gateway to a treasure trove of biodiversity, with over 2,500 unique species calling this ancient rainforest home.

2) Tech Dome Penang - Inspiring The Future

Tech Dome Penang is an initiative by the Penang State Government to create a hub for technology learning and exchange of ideas. It will be a vehicle for improving scientific literacy and technology ability in Malaysia.

Located at the geodesic dome of KOMTAR just adjacent to the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site in Penang, visitors will discover the exciting world of technology and how they work by exploring the world-class exhibits in its galleries. Regular programs will be conducted for schools, colleges and families that are specially designed to cultivate the spirit of inquiry and teach children and teenagers the skills required to thrive in a high-tech, knowledge-based future.
