SYNOPSIS

Over the coming decades, a changing climate, growing global, rising food prices and environmental stressors will have significant on food security which is addressing SDG number 2. In view of these issues, urban farming has becoming popular the recent years. People has also started to be conscious on the vegetables they are taking in terms of chemical fertiliser and pesticide applied to the plants. By growing their own vegetables, they can ensure that the food is organic and free from chemical pesticide which is harmful to health. Lately, due to Covid19, urban farming is getting more popular and seen as a means to stress releaser. Many people who work from home start gardening in their backyard and they find it as therapy to their working condition. In this webinar, the speaker will share her experience in growing her own vegetables starting in 2017 and since then she has not been buying vegetables from the market. In addition, with the involvement from the neighbourhood, urban farming has also been a source of income generation to the community.    


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Prof. Dr. Titik Khawa Abdul Rahman  received BSc E.E. (Hons) and PhD in 1988 from Loughborough University of Technology and University of Malaya, Malaysia in 1996, respectively. She started her career as an academician in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) since 1989.  In UiTM, she was entrusted with several administrative posts which Head of Academic Quality Management and  Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

In March 2012, she transferred to the National Defence University of Malaysia from Universiti Teknologi Mara and was entrusted as the Director of Centre for Academic Development. In August 2013, she decided to have an experience working in foreign university and joined as a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering (Girls Campus), King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She has supervised and graduated 14 Masters students by research and 7 PhD students and now continue supervising more than 20 PhD graduate students. Prof. Titik Khawa also have published more than 100 technical papers in international journals and conference proceedings in the area of power system stability analysis, power system operation, planning and economics, renewable energy and AI applications in power system.

Currently, she is the Dean School of Science and Technology, Asia eUniversity and entrusted to be the Deputy Vice Chancellor for the University.
