SYNOPSIS

The Institution of Engineers Malaysia has published a suite of standard conditions of contract entitled.
 
• IEM Conditions of Contract for Civil Engineering Works (January 2017).
• IEM Conditions of Contract for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Works (January 2017, and
• IEM Form of Nominated Sub-Contract for Engineering Works (December 2017).

These IEM conditions of contract were specifically prepared for engineering works where the contract administrator is an engineer. Architects typically use the PAM Form of Contract especially for buildings.

• The purpose of the talk is to elaborate on the type of projects and situations where the IEM conditions of contract are most appropriate, The IEM Conditions of Contract for Civil Engineering Works for example are intended to be used for civil infrastructure such as roadworks, water supply and sewerage schemes.  For projects involving plant and equipment, the IEM Conditions of Contract for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Works would be the most suitable.

• The IEM Form of Nominated Sub-Contract is meant to be used for nominated sub-contracts under the other IEM Conditions of Contract, whether for civil or mechanical and electrical engineering works.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Mr. Wong See Foong graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malaya in 1974 and has been involved in fire safety engineering over the past 40 years. He is a professional engineer with practicing license registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and is presently a partner in MEP Engineering Sdn Bhd, an engineering consultancy firm.

Ir. Wong is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (U.K.). and a Past President of the Institution of Fire Engineers (U.K.) Malaysia Branch. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and a Past President of the Association of Consulting Engineers, Malaysia (ACEM).

Ir. Wong’s contributions in fire safety include assisting the Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia in drafting the amendments to the Uniform Building By-laws, 1984 relating to active fire safety. His other contributions include chairing the SIRIM Technical Committee under the Industrial Standards Committee (M) for the drafting of Malaysian standards for fire fighting systems and equipment, including MS 1910 : Automatic Sprinkler Systems and MS 2616 : Fire Pumps.
