SYNOPSIS
A good Building Envelope design in current times in recent times is not just about creating iconic designs or how fast can they be completed. Building Envelopes now need to embrace cutting-edge engineering technology to respond to climate challenges and able to contribute to a city's sustainable transformation. From smart facades that responds to the climate and environment, to full life cycle carbon analysis and material optimization, there is more emphasis on the integration of engineering and digital technology to greatly improve building performance. In the Southeast Asian market, we use our local knowledge and experience, with our global knowledge on new sustainable trends to promote more sustainable building envelope design practises in the industry.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Vance Sim is an Associate Principal and Façade Leader with Arup Singapore Pte Ltd. He currently oversees the Building Envelope Market in South East Asia. He has 30 years of experience in the Façade Industry. His extensive experience and knowledge of various system design and processes enabled him to assist Clients and Architects to achieve practical solutions in a cost-efficient and timely manner. His hands-on experience of all processes at both site and fabrication, which he gained during his early years in the industry, had given him a broad base knowledge on design, production and site issues. With this broad-based knowledge of the façade systems and processes, combined with his exposure to various building owners and managing agents, he has gained an edge to tailor specific strategies with stakeholders to complete projects in a cost–efficient and timely manner. His wide experiences in complex façade systems includes sustainable façade design, with a lot of involvement in Greenmark Platinum and Net-Zero Buildings, with advice to Clients and Architects on passive design strategies to achieve sustainable and Green targets. Projects such as Marina One, Capitaspring, and ION Orchard in Singapore, District 8 in Jakarta, HSBC Bank in Vietnam, Exxon Mobil KL, and Bank Negara in Malaysia were some of his notable projects completed within South East Asia.
