Synopsis

The Government of Malaysia has committed to the international community to reduce its green house gas emissions intensity to GDP by 40 percent by the year 2020 as compared to its 2005 levels. The energy sector is a major contributor to the green house gas emissions in the country.  This paper will touch on the various initiatives undertaken by the government to promote the efficient use of energy in the country.  This will include, among others, the policies, strategies and programmes (energy efficiency rating and labeling, fiscal incentives, codes, guidelines, standards, etc) undertaken in this respect. It will also highlight some approaches towards undertaking energy management in commercial and industrial premises.
