SYNOPSIS
Corrosion is part of materials degradation, which is an inevitable process that affects every engineered system, influencing safety, reliability, and lifecycle cost. From buried pipelines and bridges to offshore platforms and industrial facilities, corrosion continuously challenge asset integrity. This talk explores how seemingly minor material changes that is always overlooked can evolve into major engineering failures if not properly understood and managed. Through practical examples and case studies, the session highlights the relationship between corrosion, risks, and long-term performance. Therefore, emphasising why engineers across all disciplines must recognise, anticipate, and control corrosion effectively and efficiently to ensure safe and sustainable infrastructure.
