SYNOPSIS

This webinar unpacks the often-misunderstood relationship between the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) Engineering Programme Accreditation Standard 2024, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) competencies advocated by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). This session clarifies how these elements are structurally interconnected under the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, particularly within Criterion 2: Programme Outcomes. It explains how ESD competencies provide the educational foundation that supports the achievement of the SDGs, and how this connection is reflected in the expectations of EAC programme outcomes. The webinar will provide practical guidance on interpreting sustainability-related requirements within EAC 2024, understanding the linkage between ESD competencies and SDG positioning, and avoiding superficial SDG “mapping” exercises. An interactive question-and-answer session will also be included to assist institutions preparing for upcoming accreditation cycles.
