SYNOPSIS
Completed in 2015, Menara Kerja Raya is a 37-storey, government-owned office tower and one of only two non-residential buildings in Malaysia to achieve Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum Final Certification, making it a landmark project for green building design and operation.
Rising approximately 175 metres with over 53,000 m² of floor area, the building houses 1,600 personnel from the JKR Malaysia, including the offices of the Minister of Works.
The tower showcases an integrated energy-efficient building strategy, incorporating triple-pane low-E glazing, high-efficiency lighting at 8 W/m² with automated daylight controls, and an optimised air-conditioning system that reduces fan power by over 50% during part-load operation. These measures achieve a BEI of approximately 90 kWh/m²/year, about 60% lower than MS 1525 baseline buildings, delivering annual electricity savings of approximately RM2.5 million.
With advanced daylighting, water reuse, and rainwater harvesting systems, Menara Kerja Raya serves as a living case study for sustainable buildings, making it an ideal focus for this technical visit.
