SYNOPSIS

This technical talk focuses on practical engineering challenges and design approaches for deploying and operating IoT-enabled public infrastructure. Using two case studies Smart Crosswalks and Smart Toilets it highlights sensor integration, network architectures, data validation, and system reliability. The session emphasizes the engineer’s role in systems integration, data interpretation, and technical governance to support safer, smarter, and more sustainable public services.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Balqis Manan

Ir. Balqis Manan is a Project Manager at Vectolabs Engineering Sdn Bhd, an IoTintegrated contractor specializing in the planning, design, and delivery of Smart City solutions. She has extensive experience bridging traditional infrastructure with advanced technologies, having delivered Smart City proposals to multiple local authorities, including Perbadanan Putrajaya, JKR Putrajaya, and several municipal councils. Her background includes roles in project engineering, resident engineering, and design consultancy, and she holds a Bachelor of Civil & Environmental Engineering from Vanderbilt University.
