SYNOPSIS
Geotechnical Engineering has its own risk due to inherent uncertainties. During the design and construction stage these risks need to be managed considering both technical risk and commercial risk.
While geotechnical engineer endeavor to mange the risks and proved value for money solutions, negligence, omissions and/or overlooking of some circumstances may happen depending on experience and nature of the contractual arrangements/agreements with stakeholders.
In this presentation, few case studies will be presented where performance of the final product is challenged and party/parties responsible are to be determined. Several experts were involved representing relevant parties to assess the reasons and/or circumstances related to the issue. The process requires forensic study to understand the root cause/s of the issue. While a reasonable amount of time and cost involved in the process, professional and independent conduct of each expert to reach his opinion is of importance.
