SYNOPSIS
Why Do I Want To Attend?
1. I want to know the best way to present my experiences in the report so that it can be considered as my engineering experience for Engineering Knowledge Application, Problem Solving, Management, Interpersonal Skill and Professional Ethics. 2. I want to see some of the good examples to follow and bad examples to avoid in my report. 3. I want to know how to be a good mentee and make full use of the mentorship program that is offered by the IEM ECD. 4. I want to know the responsibilities of my mentor. 5. I want to meet my potential mentor. I want to know how to choose the most suitable mentor for me. 6. I want to know if I am ready to be a MIEM and Professional Engineer. 7. As for the mentors, you get to learn your responsibilities and learn how to be the best mentor for your mentees.
SPEAKERS BIODATA
1. Ir. Dr Mah Siew Kien
Ir. Dr Mah Siew Kien is a Professional Engineer, sustainability champion, and strong advocate for youth engagement in science and engineering. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, and Systems Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a PhD in Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional.
With a strong belief in inclusive professional development, Dr Mah actively contributes to nurturing the next generation of engineers, particularly by mentoring aspiring professionals and promoting greater diversity within the engineering field. She serves as a Membership Applications Board Committee member and PI Interviewer.
Dr Mah is also a dedicated proponent of sustainable development, frequently contributing to initiatives that connect engineering, education, and environmental responsibility. She currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Engineering at Quest International University, where she is also an Associate Professor.
2. Ir. Han Seng Kong
Ir. Han Seng Kong is a registered Professional Engineer with 47 years of working experience spanning engineering consultancy and academia. Prior to his retirement in June 2025, he served 14 years in academia, concluding his career as Principal Lecturer and Dean, Faculty of Built Environment, at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT). He has also 33 years working experience in engineering consultancy, comprising 15 years as a sub-professional and 18 years as a Structural Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Associate.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (FIEM) and has actively contributed to the engineering fraternity as an IEM Professional Interviewer (Civil), IEM Senior Mentor, Member of the IEM Standing Committee on Admissions and Practical Training, and Member of the IEM Engineering Competency Development Sub-Committee. His professional interests include Structural Engineering, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Sustainability, and Green Technology.
