SYNOPSIS
The talk “Understanding Drilling Rigs Requirements for FDP” is part of a technical series leading up to the IEM-OGMTD Oil & Gas Platform Design Competition, designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of multidisciplinary integration in field development. This session focuses on how drilling rig requirements influence the overall Field Development Plan (FDP), highlighting the critical link between drilling and facilities planning. It begins with an overview of FDP objectives, followed by discussions on different types of drilling rigs, their capabilities, and key design parameters that impact platform configuration, topside loads, and field layout. The talk will also examine operational and environmental factors such as water depth, well trajectory, and rig mobility that drive compatibility with platform designs. By the end of the session, participants will appreciate how optimising rig selection and design integration contributes to safer, more efficient, and cost-effective field development solutions.
