SYNOPSIS
This talk provides an introductory overview of the oil and gas industry with a focus on offshore platforms and the petroleum field development planning stages. Audiences will gain insights into the different types of oil and gas platforms - including fixed platforms, floating systems, and subsea installations - and their roles in exploration, drilling, production, and transportation.
The session will also cover the Petroleum Field Development Plan (FDP), highlighting the key stages involved: reservoir evaluation, concept selection, engineering design, economic assessment, ESG, and regulatory approval. Emphasis will be placed on how multidisciplinary teams collaborate to balance technical feasibility, safety, environmental stewardship, and cost-effectiveness in developing a petroleum field.
By the end of this talk, attendees will have a clearer understanding of:
• The function and types of oil & gas platforms • The strategic steps in a petroleum field development plan • The importance of safety, sustainability, and innovation in project planning
This session is designed for students, young engineers, and professionals seeking to build foundational knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
