Course Overview
This highway engineering design course will focus in enhancing understanding needed in the following areas:
Part I: (16 & 23 August 2025) Road & Highway Designs to JKR Arahan Teknik, Surveying, Geomentric Design
Part II: (13 & 20 September 2025) Traffic Analysis, Surveying & Pavement Design & Road Safety Audit
Course Format
The course consists of classroom presentations. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions.
Biodata of Facilitators
1) Dato’ Ir. Samsuddin Ismail
Dato’ Ir. Samsuddin is the Principal and Managing Director of SSI Consulting Engineers Sdn. Bhd. He graduated from the University of Malaya in 1976 with a B. Eng (Civil) and an MSc (Highway and Traffic) from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom in 1981.
He is a Fellow member of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (FIEM), a Member of the Institution of Highways and Transportation (MIHT), United Kingdom, a PEng with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and Asian Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE). He was a Council Member of IEM and still serves in the Standing Committee on Technology and Road Management for the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM).
He has been actively giving lectures to International courses on road construction and maintenance, organized by Malaysian Technical Cooperation programme for third world countries. He was previously served in the Public Works Department Malaysia from March 1976 to March 1992 in several capacities from building engineer to road and bridge on planning, design constructions and maintenance all over Peninsular Malaysia. From April 1992 to Nov. 1993, he was Technical Director of Malaysia Airports Berhad involved in Planning of KLIA and Airport Design and Maintenance for Runway and Taxiways. From December 1993 he established a Consulting Engineers - SSI Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd involved in Project Design and Constructions for Highways and Airport Runway, Taxiways and buildings.
2) Ir. Adnan Zulkiple
Ir. Adnan obtained a B.Sc in Civil Engineering (1985) from Memphis State University, USA and an M.Sc in Construction Engineering (1990) from University of Gifu, Japan. He is a registered PEPC with expertise in Traffic and Transportation, Civil and Construction engineering. He has also been involved in the following consultancy projects since 1986: 1. Infrastructure design of low cost housing schemes in Bahau, Port Dickson and Seremban (1986) 2. Road and bridge design of 10 bridges crossing Kanda River, Tokyo for Pacific Consultant Company Limited (1990 – 1991) 3. Road Inventory for JICA Highway Development Plan Study (1990 – 2010) for Malaysia, Highway Planning Unit, Ministry of Works Malaysia (1992 –1993) 4. Masterplan Study for Malaysia Urban Transportation Planning Project, Highway Planning Unit, Ministry of Works Malaysia (1993 - 1994) 5. Alignment planning and design for LRT Kelana Jaya Line, Pengurusan Lebuhraya Berhad (1994 – 1995) 6. Feasibility Study of Proposed Ipoh – Lumut Expressway, MRCB Engineering Sdn Bhd (1996 – 1997) 7. Traffic Impact Assessment Study of more than 20 projects per year (1997 – 2002) 8. Putrajaya Transportation Action Plan Study for Putrajaya Corporation (2002 – 2003) 9. 3) Ir. Richard Wong Chuen Fun
Ir. Richard Wong is a Civil engineer with more than 35 years of experience in the industry, with 6 years in HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd and 15 years in Minconsult, both of which are leading engineering consultancy firms in Malaysia. He graduated with a B.E. (Civil) from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia in 1983.
His key experience extends to road safety audits, project management, road and bridge designs, junction and interchange designs, traffic light designs, traffic and transportation engineering, traffic impact assessment and traffic studies.
Ir. Richard is a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM); a Road Safety Auditor accredited by Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Malaysia; Past-Chairman of the Highway and Transportation Division of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM); a member of REAM; an Associated ASEAN engineer; and was a participating member of the JKR Feedback Group which drafted the guidelines for the contents of the Road Safety Audit Report by JKR.
