SYNOPSIS

The sewage treatment system in Malaysia had evolved over time from primitive system to highly mechanised facilities employing advanced tertiary treatment processes. Such improvement is in line with the Government’s policy in sewage treatment objective which was extended from the original focus in safeguarding public health to the protection of water body and environment. In order to meet the unique needs and overcoming the challenges in every project, engineers have to think out of the box to find the most appropriate solutions taking into consideration the life cycle cost. This technical talk will showcase the application of innovative solutions by Malaysian engineers in several centralised sewerage projects in Malaysia and Vietnam, including the Jelutong Sewage Treatment Plant (1.2 million PE), Yen So Wastewater Treatment Plant, Hanoi Vietnam (200,000 m3/day), Bunus Sewage Treatment Plant (750k PE) and Genting Sewage Treatment Plant (60k PE). Hopefully audience will be benefited from the thinking out of the box solutions.

Ir. Dr. Lee Yun Fook

Ir. Dr. Lee graduated from UTM with Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with 1st Class honourin 2003 and Master of Civil Engineering in 2004.He started his career with Sepakat Setia Perunding Sdn Bhd (SSP) as a Graduate Engineer in 2005. Currently he is the Executive Director of SSP. Ir Dr Lee is a practicing engineer specialised in master infrastructural for mixed development projects, sanitary secured landfill projects, centralised sewerage projects etc. In 2011, Ir Dr Lee enrolled into the industrial PhD programme under UTM and obtained his Engineering Doctorate Degree in Process Plant Management in 2016. Ir Dr Lee is a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate (BEM), Fellow of IEM and AAET, Asean Chartered Professional Engineer, Qualified Person(SPAN), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), Green Building Index Facilitator (GBIF), member of ACEM and MWA etc.He has served as the Honorary Treasurer of IEM for session (2022/2023), Council member, Excomm member, Chairman of Infrastructural Committee, etc. In addition, Ir Dr Lee is also the panel of Professional Competency Examination(PCE) under BEM.
