SYNOPSIS

Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) generally consume more than half of the energy consumption in commercial buildings in a tropical region. Unlike general commercial buildings where occupant comfort is the key operating factor, ACMVs in healthcare facilities need to comply with air quality and pressure regime regulations and standards requirements, especially in critical areas. Due to the high cost of operating the ACMV system, many health facilities in Malaysia have embarked on energy efficiency initiatives. Many have replaced their chillers with magnetic-bearing chiller compressors to benefit from cost reduction. However, despite the replacement, it was found that not all healthcare facilities benefited fully from improved air condition systems other than the higher coefficient of performance obtained from the new installation.

The speaker shall introduce a systematic guideline for facility managers to evaluate healthcare facilities ACMV systems and provides solutions that match the healthcare facilities ventilation requirements standards in making effective decision before embarking chiller retrofitting. The guideline is based on the speaker experience and observation through energy auditing of the ACMV system and chiller retrofitting evaluation at the healthcare facilities. With the systematic approach methodology, facilities managers shall be able shall have a more cost-effective management guidance of ACMV system supporting the sustainable initiatives and energy efficiency.

Ir. AL-KHAIRI MOHD DAUD

Ir. Al-Khairi Mohd Daud graduated in 1992 with B. Eng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1992 from University of Leeds UK and holds a MBA from UNITAR. He is a registered professional engineer with practicing certificate with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a registered Electrical Energy Manager with Energy Commission (EC). He has 25 years of experience in project and maintenance of various plants and facilities, energy management consultancy, audit, facilities management advisory, at both government and private sector. A leading energy management expert in various organisations. Currently he is a Managing Director and is a lecture/instructor for the Ministry of Health and Suruhanjaya Tenaga.
