Synopsis
The talk discusses the evolution of commercial aircraft technology, avionics systems, cockpit displays, and licensed aircraft maintenance engineer’s training. The evolution of commercial aircraft technology from wood and fabric construction to composite materials and digital technology has led to safer, more efficient, and more comfortable air travel. The evolution of avionics systems and cockpit displays has allowed pilots to access more information and monitor flight data more effectively. The role of licensed aircraft maintenance engineers has evolved from a self-taught profession to a highly specialized and regulated field, with training programs focused on specialization, computerization, and regulatory compliance. Continuing education is also emphasized for licensed aircraft engineers to keep up with the latest technologies and best practices. In this talk, the speaker will share the significant advancements in commercial aviation technology, the evolution of cockpit displays, avionics systems, and licensed aircraft maintenance engineering training, and emphasize the importance of continuing education and professional development for licensed aircraft engineers.
Speaker’s Profile
Ir. Ricky Liew Chee Leong
Ir. Ricky Liew is currently the Head of Engineering of an aircraft engineering services company. He is a registered professional engineer (aerospace) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia with 34 years of experience in the aircraft engineering and maintenance industry. A former Adjunct Professor of Universiti Putra Malaysia at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, he is a Fellow of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) and Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology (MySET). He holds the Civil Aviation Authority United Kingdom (CAA UK) and CAA Malaysia aircraft maintenance engineer license. He was an aircraft engineer with Malaysia Airlines, Eva Airways Corporation and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He holds an MBA from Victoria University, Australia. He was involved in several projects related to flight technology including aircraft test flights and acceptance, ferrying missions, airworthiness review and maintenance certifications among others. He is listed as a National Industry Expert (DPIN-Aerospace) under Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia. He has been the Industry Advisor for several universities in Malaysia including University of Nottingham, Sunway Monash University, Nilai University, UTHM and Politeknik Banting Selangor. He is a recipient of Sunway Star Award 2017, Malaysia Board of Technologist (MBOT) Active Technologist Award 2019, Recipient of International Sustainable Aviation and Energy Research Society (SARES) Company Award 2020 and 1st prize recipient of BEM Convention 2022 essay competition.
