Synopsis
Food additives are substances added to food products to perform specific technological functions include preserving, adding colours, or enhancing flavours.
Many of food additives have been developed over the time to meet the needs of large-scale food production. There are several thousand of food additives have been used in food industry. The use of food additives is only justified when there is a technological need, does not mislead consumers, and serves a well-defined technological function, such as to enhance the stability or preserve the quality of the food.
This talk gives an insight into food additives from introduction to applications in food industries, and its compliance (international standards).
Speaker Profile
Ir. Sia SY has over 14 years’ experience in manufacturing & production, factory operations, continuous improvement, and project management in various industries ranging from steel works, food manufacturing, assembly plants, and logistics industry. He is currently an operations manager in a well-known food & beverage manufacturing group.
Ir. Sia is a Professional Engineer registered with Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM), a Professional Technologist registered with Malaysia Board of Technologist (MBOT), a Chartered Engineer registered with Engineering Council in UK (ECUK), and a Corporate Member of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
