The construction industry is facing widespread turbulence such as labour shortages, poor quality workmanship, high price in building materials, inconsistent quality control and financial constraints have resulted projects failing to fulfil their contract. All these predicaments are causing difficult challenges, hardship, and instability to everyone in the industry. Conventional approaches are proving to be ineffective, thus reforming and changes are much needed to stay ahead of this turbulence.

With this in mind, new generation of concrete mix design and more sustainable and resilience construction methods are needed to be explored to regain functionality and bring relief to the construction industry.

SPEAKER 1
Dr. LIM ENG HOCK (ZACK)

Dr. Zack Lim Eng Hock earned his PHD in Civil Engineering at IIC University in 2018. He also earned his bachelor degree as a production engineer from The City University (London) in year 1981. He worked for 6 years in the construction industry before setting up his own company specialized in building factories and warehouses.

Having conducted over 50 seminars and workshops, he was certified as a Trainer by Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) in July 2016. Dr. Zack introduced Superflat Floor in Malaysia in year 1998 by importing technology from Australia when he was awarded to build the Nestle Distribution Centre as a main contractor. In year 2000, Zacklim Flat Floor Specialist was incorporated to venture into specializing in the construction of super flat floors which Asia lacks and later having achieved building floors of world class standards.

Over 33 years in construction, he has amassed great experience and gained international recognition having constructed industrial flooring jobs in Asia. He has been actively involved in working with and advising young engineers, contractors & ready-mixed suppliers and extolling the virtues of best practices of concrete flooring construction. He was Immediate Past President of American Concrete Institute (ACI) Kuala Lumpur Chapter and had organized seminars, networking sessions to develop the standard of concrete construction and related trades not only in Malaysia but also in Asia.

He is the founding member of Concrete Floors Asia (CFA) consisting 11 international professional members with the objective of delivering best practices in floor construction and to promote worldclass standard floors in Asia. He is the Vice President of Concrete Society of Malaysia (CSM) and also a council member of Asian Concrete Construction Institute (ACCI) with objective to foster regional integration for the concrete and construction fraternity and to promote excellence in the industry through pooling of information, seminars, talks and technical visits and also to provide a communication channel for government of the region to solicit advice on construction related matters.


SPEAKER 2
Mr YEO SHIH HORNG

Mr Yeo Shih Horng has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Sciences from University of Malaya in 2013. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in 2009 from University of Malaya. Mr Yeo is the director of YSH Concrete Technology Sdn. Bhd. mainly specializing in designing high-performance concrete, high strength concrete and low heat concrete.

Mr Yeo had worked on numerous projects with various companies. Since 2015, Mr Yeo works as a concrete technical expert for TUV SUD PSB (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. In the year 2017, he worked closely with Dr. Lim Eng Hock from Zacklim Flat Floor Specialist Sdn. Bhd. on high early strength repair material for SMART Tunnel. In the same year, he had completed a project on high early strength and mass concrete mix design in Dalian, Liaoning, China. He also advised Coco Project, Singapore regarding Grade 75 high early strength concrete with low heat properties. Recently, he gave a technical presentation to Ready Mix Concrete (B) Sdn. Bhd. In Brunei.

Mr Yeo is also very active in associations and various activities. He is a committee member of the American Concrete Institute – Malaysia Chapter from 2010 till 2019. Furthermore, he is the committee member of the Civil and Structural Engineering Technical Division of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) from 2017 to 2019.


SPEAKER 3
Mr CHIN SU HUNG

Mr. Chin Su Hung first encounters the successful use of fibers as reinforcement for concrete floors in 2012. He is now actively promoting fibers in applications for cement concrete and asphalt concrete. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and has 15 years of construction experiences.

He provides professional talks on how replacing prefabricated steel mesh with synthetic fibres can reduce concrete shrinkage cracks on hardened concrete, improve impact strength and increase fatigue resistance and concrete toughness. He promotes heavy duty fibres which offer maximum long term durability with structural enhancements.
