SYNOPSIS
Resources efficiency is one of the five pillars of sustainability for mining industry. Mineral resources have a finite life economically and physically. Therefore, they must be extracted, processed, and used as efficiently as possible. Starting from the exploration to resources estimation and reserve classification, the waste or barren rock and ore will go through the mining activity. The broad spacing drilling data from resources exploration is insufficient as a guide to mine the orebody at optimum grade and tonnes. Another sampling activity called grade control sampling and modelling must be carried out to determine the exact location of ore body. Based on the grade control model, the proper systematic mining activity should be supervised by the knowledgeable and experience personnel. The ore mining data must be documented and compare in term of tonnes, grade and metal with resources data and processing data. This comparison is called reconciliation of mine to resources and mine to mill. The good reconciliation indicates the effective and efficiency in resources extraction.
SPEAKER BIODATA
Dr Zakaria Endut is a lecturer at Mineral Resources engineering at School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering since January 2019. He teaches economic mineral, prospecting geochemistry, and Mineral Deposits. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Geoscience from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the PhD in economic geology field from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Dr Zakaria accumulated 21 years of experiences in mining industries since 1995 in which 18 years was in Penjom gold mine, Kuala Lipis, Pahang as a Mine Geologist. In Penjom, Dr Zakaria play a key role in mine exploration to determine the extension of ore body, supervise the grade control and mining activity, modelling the grade control data and reconciliation.
