SYNOPSIS
There are many research studies about El Niño, physical effect on oil palm crops and different future climatic forecast modelling. IPCC and some regional climate change studies were also been conducted in Malaysia. However, no study was conducted to quantify the actual financial losses of those technical studies in term of real Malaysian GDP value for the oil palm industry. If future climate change scenarios bring forth grave outlook whereby more and frequent weather anomalies such as strong and prolonged El Niño period(s) will be expected in Malaysia and Indonesia, what can we do and what are the bottom-line impact to oil palm industry?
