SYNOPSIS
The International Engineering Alliance (IEA) comprises 41 jurisdictions within 29 countries, across seven international agreements. These agreements govern the recognition of engineering educational qualifications and professional competence. Malaysia is a full signatory to Washington, Sydney and Dublin Accords (Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)); and APEC and IPEA agreements (Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM)); and a provisional signatory to IETA and AIET agreements (IEM).
IEA have approved revisions to its Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies (GAPC) (Sept 2021). The joint IEA-WFEO Working Group engaged extensively with IEA signatories, WFEO members and WFEO partners representing academics, industry and women globally; supported by UNESCO. GAPC 2021 reflects requirements for new technologies and engineering disciplines, new pedagogies and values, namely sustainable development, diversity and inclusion and ethics; to support the engineering role in building a more sustainable and equitable world.
BEM is revising the EAC and ETAC Standards 2020 to incorporate the GAPC 2021. Let’s tune in and get the updates of GAPC 2021.
