SYNOPSIS
Dengue cases are on the rise will probably reach endemic and Engineers should be in the forefront NOW to help to arrest the current situation. In this respect IEM Library had purchased an eBook entitled “Mosquitoes and Their Control” has 459 pages for YOU, download the book and learn the knowledge however one must put the knowledge learned to practice when designing the building services. There was one study conducted jointly between University of Malaya & Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia entitled PREVENTION OF AEDES BREEDING HABITATS FOR URBAN HIGH-RISE BUILDING IN MALAYSIA highlighted the design issues relating to roof gutters, floor traps, perimeter drains, etc that resulted in stagnant water and the building was infested with mosquitoes and dengue cases reported.
This technical talk covers the salient points extracted from the eBook on the prevention and control of aedes mosquitoes breeding grounds and to apply them to the above study. The listed design issues will be highlighted and deliberated so that Engineers are aware of such shortcomings and be mindful in their future design of roof gutters, floor traps and perimeter drains.
Before embarking on this, one must asked if your own home has the prevention and controls put in place to eliminate aedes mosquitoes breeding grounds? If the answer is affirmative then the start of the journey to bring down the number of dengue cases in the country.
