SYNOPSIS

The COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease.  It is caused by virus SARS-CoV-2. The virus was confirmed to have reached MALAYSIA in late January 2020, when it was detected on travelers from China arriving in JOHOR via SINGAPORE.

Since then, it has stayed and showing no let-up towards reducing its pace. Government actions in curbing the widespread has lead to many initiatives and the global impact caused by the pandemic has affected global economy and closer to home the Malaysian economy. Linked directly, as more and more business enterprises showing signs of slowing down and winding up, more employees are seeing pay-cuts and some loss of jobs. Some have already resigned to the fact that it is time for change.

Loss of employment is just one issue: the more concerning worry is the plight of undergraduates and fresh graduates who just completed their engineering degrees and are now seeking employment. In this webinar, the speaker shall share his views on the dilemma of graduates and offer some way forward to alleviate the challenges faced by the graduates.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Y.Bhg. First Admiral Dato' Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad Bin Hj Omar (Retired) joined the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in 1975 and graduated from UTM with a B.E Mechanical in 1982. Whilst in the Navy he pursued his Masters of Science program in Business Engineering Management a twinning UTM/Warwick UK program. After 33 years in RMN serving both in shore establishments and onboard ships he rose to the rank of First Admiral, the highest rank an engineer could achieve at that time. First Admiral Dato' Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad retired from the RMN early at the age of 49 in 2007 and ventured into the industrial sector as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Motor Technology Industry Sdn Bhd dealing with micro precision machining and remanufacturing of diesel engines and 3 years later as a chief consultant for a Six Sigma Consultancy company. Late 2010 he joined OMAHAMS Corporation Sdn Bhd till this day. Today OMAHAMS Corp has been awarded a series of Graduate Enhancement training programs, the latest of which is the Penjana KPT-CAP Progarm involving graduate employability.

During all the years of experience, First Admiral Dato’ Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad covered an expanse of experience and knowledge in project management, ship building and repairs. From as early as 1984 he was already involved with the RMN’s Offshore Patrol Vessel (KD MARIKH) project, a 75-meter vessel and later served onboard for three years. In 1990 he was sent to Yarrows Shipyard in Glasgow, Scotland on a one-year exchange program attached to the Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate building program where exposure to shipbuilding techniques of the modern-day technology was evident and learned. Upon his return, he was later appointed to KD LEKIR a German built Corvette for a three-year duty. Outside the Navy, First Admiral Dato’ Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad has enhanced his experience further at the helm of OMAHAMS Corp Sdn Bhd a Bumiputera Marine Service & Supply company involved with the Ship Life Extension Program for KD KASTURI Class vessel, KD PERANTAU complete outfitting retrofitting, repairs of KM BUNGA MAS 5 and KD PERAK just to name a few.

First Admiral Dato’ Ir. Hj Ahmad Murad today is a Fellow of IEM, Fellow of IMarEST, member of SNAME (USA) and ASEAN Eng. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Marine Engineer, registered with the UK Engineering Council for the former. Recently IMarEST UK made him an Honorary Vice President for life in recognition of his excellent and outstanding contributions in the maritime industry both local and international.
