Synopsis for Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No.5 (TT5)

The first 4 tin dredges was introduced in Malaya in 1913 by Malayan Tin Dredging Ltd (MTD) and started operations in Batu Gajah, Perak. Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No.5 or TT5 was later introduced by Southern Malayan Tin Dredging (SMTD); a company owned by MTD in 1938 and it was designed and built by F.W. Payne Sons in England. The dredge was in operation for 44 years until August 1982, when a drop in tin prices made the dredge un-economically viable. TT5 was maintained and managed by Malaysian Mining Corporation Berhad (MMC) before MMC donated the dredge to Perak State Government for heritage purposes. In 2015, the Perak State Government has appointed Perbadanan Menteri Besar Perak (MB Inc.) to manage and to design a strategic plan on restoration and preservation of the heritage for the future generation and turn it as one of a major tourist attraction in Perak through Amanjaya TT5, a wholly owned subsidiary of Perbadanan Menteri Besar Perak (MB Inc) until today.

NOTE – Participant need to pay additional RM10.00 for entrance fees for dredge tour.
