SYNOPSIS
Periodic inspections is carried out on buildings to determine the structural safety, soundness and integrity. Under Section 85A, Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), there is a mandatory requirement for the periodic inspection of buildings of more than 5-storey height and after the tenth (10) year commencing from the date of issue of the Certificate of Fitness (CF)/Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC). The Mayor of KL shall notify and ensure that Building Owners appoints a registered Professional Engineer to conduct visual inspections and when necessary,  a full structural investigations and provide the visual inspection report and/or the structural investigation report respectively.

DBKL has produced a guideline and the presenter shall discuss the contents of the “Guidelines on Periodical Inspection of Buildings in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur”, describing the scope of works, responsibility of the Professional Engineer with a flow chart of the whole process. Case studies of Inspections carried out will be presented for various types of buildings including the Petronas Twin Tower.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER
En. Mohd Zaidi Daud is a Civil Engineer in the Building Control Department, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL). He studied at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Segamat and graduated with a Degree of Bachelor in Civil Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2008. After a short stint with a developer En Zaidi joined DBKL as a civil Engineer in the Structure Design Unit, Architect Department. In 2011, He joined the Forensic Unit, Building Control Department DBKL as the Engineer responsible for the Implementation of Periodical Inspections of Buildings under Section 85A, Street Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).
