SYNOPSIS

The presentation will share the author’s experience in load out activities and its’ various methodologies. Load-out is the process of transferring offshore structure from fabrication yard onto the transportation barge/vessel and the process of structure’s sea fastening prior to sail away. The load-out process generates load-out forces on the structure as it moves from the fabrication yard to the barge.  Most often, these activities are performed at the fabrication yard which is located near the sea area.

Prior to the commencement of fabrication, the site area must be investigated and analyzed to be performing well during the fabrication, as well as during load-out condition. Hence, environmental factors among other wind loading/direction and the tide plays an important aspect in these activities. There are various types of load out methodology available in the market. This include the skidding, lifting and trolleyed load-out. Each with its’ own limitation and benefits. The presentation will also explore and share the various load-out activities conducted by the various fabrication yard, its limitation and capability from the owner perspective. What can be done to further enhance the yard capability? Part of the load-out process includes sea fastening where the structure need to be sea fastened prior to sail away. PETRONAS best practices are captured and impose to the various fabrication yard through it PETRONAS Technical Standard (PTS) which will also be highlighted here.
