SYNOPSIS:

The presentation will give an insight into Building Information Modeling (BIM), defining the process involving BIM in the lifecycle of a construction project from its inception and design to the demolition or de-construction of the asset.  Among the highlighted benefits of BIM include, key driver for building sustainability and to support green initiatives.  It will also delve into the levels of BIM sophistications (Level 0-Level 3); and the various BIM dimensions (3D, 4D, 5D, etc.); clash detection & resolution processes and simulation capability.  The talk will further deliberate on various applications of BIM such as space management, asset information management, facility management and tracking asset’s performance throughout its lifecycle - all in the domain of built environment.  A short discussion will ensue on the various standards established and published in various parts of the world to regulate the practice in BIM adoption.


BIODATA of SPEAKERS:

1. Ir. Sharifah Azlina Raja Kamal Pasmah

Ir. Sharifah Azlina Raja Kamal Pasmah is currently the Chief Operating Officer of HSS Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and Chief Executive Officer of BIM Global Ventures Sdn. Bhd.  Ir. Sharifah Azlina graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from USA in 1990 and completed her Master of Business Administration at Cardiff, UK in 2012.  She started her training at the Memphis City Council and joined the engineering consultancy industry upon return to Malaysia.  She is currently the Chief Operating Officer of HSS Engineering Sdn. Bhd.  Ir. Sharifah Azlina has over 27 years of experience within the engineering and project management services.  Ir. Sharifah Azlina is also instrumental in setting up the Building Information Modelling (BIM) outfit in the HSS Group, with the incorporation of BIM Global Ventures Sdn. Bhd. locally and HSS BIM Solutions Private Limited, in Chennai, India, in the year 2012.  She is the CEO of BGV.

Ir. Sharifah Azlina, a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia, is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (FIEM), a member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, UK (MCIHT), a member of the Project Management Institute, USA and a member of the Intelligent Transport System Association of Malaysia (ITS).  She is a Principal Interviewer for IEM’s Professional Interview applicants and serves as a committee member for the IEM Women Engineers Section 2009-2014.  Ir. Sharifah Azlina is also a Council Member in the buildingSmart Malaysian Chapter, a regulatory agency who is driving the Building Information Modeling (BIM) agenda at the national level.


2. Pn. Norimah Othman

Pn. Norimah Othman is currently the BIM Manager of BIM Global Ventures Sdn. Bhd. for the past 1.5 years and has worked on a large number of projects with varying amounts of complexity, including commercial complexes, hotel buildings, high-rise offices, residential, healthcare and educational projects.  Pn. Norimah oversees the productivity of all technicians in relation to BIM and its implication on numerous projects.  

With 16 years of experience in Architecture and BIM implementation in the construction industry, she has contributed to achieve key milestones for the company.  She started her career in an architectural firm as an assistant architect in 2001 after obtaining her Diploma of Architecture, University Technology Malaysia and then graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2006 from the International Islamic University.  She was then attached to Pakatan Reka Arkitek Sdn. Bhd., and was fully involved in detailed design, authority liaison and contract implementation during construction.  She’s fully aware that coordination and interaction between stakeholders are important within a project as it involves dollars and cents in addition to time.

She also has worked with BIM implementation environment for Sunway Construction for 5 years from research and development to BIM implementation during construction.  She has led the BIM team to support live BIM coordination among client, consultants and subcontractor to achieve the BIM objective and BIM deliverables.
