SYNOPSIS
Businesses are no more likely to achieve business goals (3P-Profit, Profit, Profit) without a strategic OSH business process than are organizations likely to achieve new cultural capabilities. When combined, the business strategy and leadership strategy can work simultaneously to develop new core capabilities necessary for the organization’s future. We make the case that it is leadership, as a purposeful collection of like-minded people that can demonstrate and participate in the new ways of doing and being that evolves the OSH culture and enables different business outcomes. A leadership in OSH Management can guide the organizations to establish measures to prevent and control hazards and risks, or well-known hazards and risks such as those arising from dangerous substances, machinery and tools and manual handling as well as for emerging issues, such as biological hazards, psychosocial hazards and muscular-skeletal disorders. Leaders can have a positive influence on encouraging and supporting safe and healthy behaviour amongst employees (O'Dea & Flin, 2001). Improving the safety behaviour of employees is an ambitious leadership goal. Centrally, it depends upon establishing a strategic prevention culture, in order to build a labour force that is intrinsically motivated about OSH Management.
